Back Home to Allegany!
This tells about Allegany and its meening to me.
Hi, My name is Andy and I am 21. My first visit to Allegany State Park was when I was 3. Ever since my first trip there I always loved the beauty and serenity that the park has to offer.
In my early visits to the park, I would go with my family and another family for a weekend in the spring and fall. Every year we would stay in Beehunter 4 on the Red House side of the park. As the years past, that family we went with lost interest in camping altogether, so we went for a week in the summer with other families and friends. After one summer of staying in a cabin, my parents bought a trailer and we stayed in the Red House Tent and Trailer Area. Up to this day we go every summer with other families and take up half of a section of the Tent and Trailer Area with all of our acquaintances. I feel that I am really lucky to spend my vacation in such a beautiful place, However that is not the only time I visit Allegany.
I normally end up going about once a month. I get a cabin on the Red House side just about every spring and fall and go with friends. My boy scout troop goes camping there also. Sometimes I go for day trips. Allegany just seams to feel like home to me and I am grateful that such a place exists for me and other to enjoy, there is always so much do every time I go.
Campfires were always fun as a kid because all of us would get together at one of our campsites at the end of the day and we would tell each other what we did that day. Sometimes if it was a clear night we would go up to Stone Tower at about 2:00am to look at the stars. I can recall a time when we arrived their and it was a full moon. Someone who lived in the area just arrived with a couple thousand dollar telescope, he allowed us to use it and did you know, I could see the most intricate detail of the moon.
Oh and who could ever forget animal spotting with the dear light. Those late night rides through the park and down France Brook Road hoping to see something really exciting. We would see raccoons, dear, foxes, skunks, and one time a bobcat. We still hope to see a bear, maybe that day is yet to come.
My favorite days in Allegany are when it is warm foggy, and misty with that cozy and mysterious feeling. My favorite example of this was June of 2000. Back here in Buffalo it was unseasonable cool. My friend and I took a ride up to the park. As we were on the 219, The fog got so thick It was hard to see were I was going, as we got on the other side of the fog cloud, It was very hot and misty. It was a Monday in early June and just the park employees were their. It was like we had the whole place to ourselves, walking and hiking in the mist and enjoying the day that nature had given us.
This past summer was quit a trip! We had a 2 week stay as I always have been doing for three years now, the second week was the best of them all pics to follow!
I have may memories of Allegany all thought my childhood and they still continue to grow now that I am grown up I could'nt imagine my childhood without them. I belie that everyone needs somewhere to go every once and a while to get away from the stress of everyday life. For me it is and always will be Allegany State Park!
